Maine is about as remote as it gets for mainland United States destinations, geographically speaking, and sadly it is one of those states that location segregates for many travelers. Even those who venture into other parts of New England often cut that route short, and never make their way into Maine.
Yet, those who have experienced the area know that it is filled with amazing beauty and peaceful settings. From Acadia National Park, to the coastal cities and islands, the area epitomizes our images of historic New England life. From the rocky shores, to the iconic clapboard homes, the views are charming.
The winters may be harsh, and perhaps too many Steven King novels have taken place in Maine,. Maybe the state has gotten a bad rap. But those who make the trek to the northeastern most portion of the US, often fall in love, and find themselves returning again and again.
