When people think of New York, they often think of New York City, often forgetting that New York is a large state filled with some diversity in the landscape, and some exciting rural destinations. Certainly NYC is an amazing destination, and one that every traveler should experience at least once. But this is not all there is in the state.
Upstate New York, as it is generally referred to, has numerous other sites worth visiting. There historic locations, from both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, as well as sites with interesting presidential histories, that are little known. There are also cities with some unique claims to fame, such as Buffalo, known around the world for it’s art deco architecture.
On top of that, upstate has some stunning landscapes, in the Allegheny Mountains, the Finger Lakes area, and of course along both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, which includes Niagara Falls. Among these are some of those iconic Instagram photo spots, such as Niagara, or Watkins Glen.
