Talk about Louisiana travel and people automatically think of New Orleans. Yes, the Big Easy is an important destination in the state, but Louisiana is so much more than just its biggest city. What’s more, there are areas that are unlike anything else that can be found in the US, adding to the mystery and the charm of traveling in this area of the deep south.
One of the easiest ways to discover the area is by taking a trek down the Great River Road, as the Mighty Mississippi has influenced life in the state since its founding. This route will take you through the other big city of Louisiana, Baton Rouge, which is also the capital.
We highly recommending venturing out into that rural areas to get a feeling for the sites and lifestyle that characterize the area. The ruins of plantation houses and cotton fields give perspective to pre-civil war life in the state, and the bayous give a unique glimpse of the Cajun culture that exists no where else.
